WhatsApp faced a significant backlash from users who were concerned that their data was being exchanged with parent company Facebook.WhatsApp has announced to extend the deadline of the new privacy policy on May 15. In such a situation, if you have not accepted the WhatsApp Privacy Policy before May 15, then your account will not be closed.

It was mandatory for the users to approve the new privacy policy of WhatsApp. An announcement was made to close the accounts of users who did not do so. This unilateral decision of WhatsApp was strongly opposed.

After this, many users had left WhatsApp and started shifting to other instant messaging app Signal, Telegram. In such a situation, a change in the deadline of May 15 has been announced by WhatsApp. WhatsApp spokesperson said that even if you do not accept the new privacy policy of WhatsApp, your account will not be closed.

Via an in-app update in January 2021, WhatsApp told users of updates to its terms of service and public policy. Users were initially given until February 8 to agree to the new terms or stop using the platform. Moreover, user outrage pressured WhatsApp to push back the February deadline to May 15.

WhatsApp spokesperson said that.“No accounts will be deleted on May 15 because of this update and no one in India will lose the functionality of WhatsApp either. We will follow up with reminders to people over the next several weeks.”

According to the spokesperson, the majority of users have approved the new privacy policy. However, the company did not explain why it made the decision and did not reveal how many users have approved the terms so far.
