  • Mesh users will be presented in the form of virtual avatars

Microsoft Mesh Mixed Reality platform for communicating in virtual space has been launched. Microsoft Mesh lets users appear as Holograms in virtual meetings.

To create your 3D avatar on Microsoft Mesh, you do not need to have a special headset. Also, a number of functions will be available even to smartphone users.

Microsoft Mesh, built on Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing platform is focused on improving the quality of virtual meetings and can be used for training, online conference and remote assistance.

Microsoft technical fellow Alex Kipman appeared as a hologram to launch Mesh on a virtual stage. The team of Alex Kipman has developed HoloLens augmented reality eyewear.

Users do not need to purchase an AR or VR headset to interact with 3D content or with each other in real-time. At the same time, the technology is compatible with both the original Microsoft Hololens 2 accessory and devices from other manufacturers.

Initially, Mesh users will be presented in the form of virtual avatars, and later the developers intend to carry out a life-like 3D hologram of a user in the future.

The implementation of Microsoft Mesh will begin with integration into Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Dynamic 365. It is expected that the platform will be in demand by engineers, designers and representatives of other professions, as well as gamers in particular. Mesh already supports the popular game Pokemon Go.

“This has been the dream for mixed reality, the idea from the very beginning, You can actually feel like you’re in the same place with someone sharing content or you can teleport from different mixed reality devices and be present with people even when you’re not physically together,” said Microsoft Technical Fellow Alex Kipman.
