Apple has introduced a new desktop operating system macOS Monterey. The system has received a number of innovations, including the Universal Control mode, the redesign of the Safari browser, as well as the Share Play and Screen Sharing functions available on iOS and iPad OS.
The updated features of the Continuity service, which now has a Universal Control mode, allows you to even more closely connect multiple Apple devices into one ecosystem. The idea behind the function is to use one cursor on both MacBook and iPad at once. In other words, the tablet can be used both as an additional monitor and as an additional workspace.
It is noteworthy that the new function works for several devices at once: they can be, for example, a bundle from iPad, MacBook and iMac, for which a shared clipboard and the ability to drag files from one device to another will be available. And all this happens seamlessly: gadgets automatically recognize which of them to which relayed or sent files.
The new OS has a feature called AirPlay to Mac: now you can play music or videos, as well as duplicate the device’s screen on your Mac.
The company took the Fast Actions experience previously implemented on iOS and added it to the desktop operating system. Thus, with just one preliminary script, users can create a series of quick actions that can be performed with one click. At the same time, the import of ready-made scripts from the Automator utility is available.
A lot of changes have also been made to the Safari browser. The company has optimized it so that owners of the latest M1-based MacBooks can surf the Internet for up to 17 hours on a single charge. In addition, the application has redesigned the tabs, as well as added “Groups”, which help to simplify navigation when opening multiple pages.
APPLE also redesigned the side menu of the application, adding the ability to save groups of tabs for reopening. At the same time, they are synchronized with other devices operating under the same Apple ID account.
In addition, the company has made it easier to interact with tabs so that you can quickly resume work when moving from one device to another. At the same time, visually the tab bar and the address bar are now combined. Finally, Extensions are now available not only on macOS but also on iOS and iPadOS 15.
In macOS Monterey, the innovations that were announced for iOS 15 and iPad OS 15 are also available. Among them – Focus mode, translator, Share Play and Screen Sharing functions, iCloud +, Notes, portrait mode in FaceTime, “Reminders” in the application “Photo”. The company also announced a low power mode for its laptops but did not reveal its features.
Apple has promised to release a test version of the operating system for developers today, June 7. macOS Monterey, iPadOS 15, iOS 15, and watchOS 8 will be released in public beta in July.
